Building a culture of innovation to deliver better outcomes for patients and cost savings for the NHS
Innovation is critical in enabling the NHS to achieve the ambitions set out in the NHS Five Year Forward View. There is a need to increase the pace and scale of change to deliver better outcomes for patients and cost savings for the NHS. Innovation will not come solely from industry – developing a culture of innovation within the NHS itself is an important long-term goal.
Building an innovation culture requires a range of different approaches that are embedded into all levels within the NHS.
Practical support and tools gained through the Entrepreneur Programme
Assistance in obtaining funding, such as the Future Innovators Award competition
Participation in the NHS Innovation Accelerator
New and improved approaches to patient care need to be supported by all stakeholders. Those who come up with the ideas and the champions who take them forward need to feel supported through the innovation process. This can only happen through education, training, support and celebrating success.
